Mecardo final checked out high quality scheme volumes in June 2021 (see article right here). The up to date record of high quality schemes within the Australian public sale market (see extra right here) is accessible on the AWEX web site. There are 12 Australian and three New Zealand schemes. The Pareto precept (see extra right here) is working in wool high quality schemes, with the highest 2 (RWS and Authentico) accounting for 60% of merino wool accreditations and the identical two schemes accounting for 83% of the crossbred accreditations.

Determine 1 reveals the proportion of 13 high quality scheme accreditations for merino wool bought at public sale in 2024-25 (final season). Understand that many heaps have a number of high quality scheme accreditations, so there’s lots of overlap between schemes. Additionally, take note wool bought exterior of auctions, which is accredited to a top quality system – most probably to both RWS or Authentico. Inside auctions, some 5.6% of merino wool (in clear phrases) was accredited to RWS and 5.2% to Authentico, with these 2 schemes accounting for 60% of accreditations. SustainaWool, Australian Superfine Wool Growers, and ResponsiWool have been the following group of schemes with 1.9% to 2.4% shares. Past that, the amount shares fall away to negligible ranges for the opposite schemes. By the use of comparability, the South African merino clip has 55% accredited to sustainable schemes, and in Uruguay, it’s claimed that 90% of the merino clip is accredited to RWS.

Determine 2 reveals the proportion of high quality scheme accreditation for crossbred wool bought at public sale in 2024-25. RWS accounted for 3.3% of crossbred gross sales and Authentico 2.1%, with these two schemes accounting for 83% of accreditations.

Now, high quality scheme accreditations differ tremendously by micron class. Determine 3 reveals the share of merino wool bought (clear phrases) by micron class in 2024-25 for the highest three schemes. Accreditation is highest for the very superb merino micron classes, and falls because the fibre diameter will increase.

Determine 4 repeats the evaluation of accreditation by micron class for crossbred wool, with little correlation between micron and accreditation ranges. Nevertheless, accreditation does attain a low of round 28 micron, which is the place the majority of crossbred manufacturing in Australia is situated.

Framing the primary high quality schemes is the proportion of wool which is said as ceased/non-mulesed (CM-NM). For merino public sale gross sales final season, 17.4% in clear phrases was declared CM-NM, and for crossbred wool, 40.6%. Inside these CM-NM proportions, there’s ample room for high quality scheme accreditation to develop.
