Government’s wheat procurement declines 69% so far in 2026-27 rabi marketing season

The federal government’s wheat procurement has reached 15.30 lakh tonne to date within the present 2026-27 rabi advertising and marketing season as in comparison with 50.08 lakh tonne in the identical interval of the earlier 2025-26 rabi advertising and marketing season, i.e. down by 69.44%. Wheat, the primary rabi (winter) crop, is procured by means of the April-March interval. Nevertheless, a lot of the grain is purchased within the first few months itself, primarily by the Meals Company of India (FCI) and state businesses.

As per FCI information, the businesses have procured 15.30 lakh tonne to date because the begin of the procurement operation from April 1, 2026, whereas the arrival stood at 34.74 lakh tonne. As of April 13, 2026, wheat procurement in Punjab was 29,925 tonne, Haryana, 11.23 lakh tonne, Uttar Pradesh 96,670 tonne, Madhya Pradesh 1.02 lakh tonne, Rajasthan 8,957 tonne, Uttarakhand 1.66 lakh tonne. 

The federal government has set a wheat procurement goal of 30.3 lakh tonne for the continued 2026-27 season. The procurement in main states akin to Punjab and Madhya Pradesh commenced on April 1, 2026, whereas particular areas like Rajasthan started as early as March 10, 2026. Wheat is being procured at a minimal assist value of Rs 2,585 per quintal.
